How much more effective is Acid Redux than other popular Antacids and why? - Click To Enlarge
How much more effective is Acid Redux than other popular Antacids and why?
Our testing shows that Acid Redux is faster acting and longer lasting in buffering hydrochloric (stomach) acid from time of consumption until one minute after consumption. (click to enlarge chart)

Acid Redux is more effective than these other Antacids because it has a stronger pKa (strength of the base) to initiate the buffering effect on the H+ ions allowing the buffering to react more quickly and over a longer time period.

Can Acid Redux be a supplement or an alternative source for calcium, magnesium and potassium?
Yes, as reported that diets with higher levels of magnesium and potassium have less calcium loss from bones. Acid Redux is another source for calcium, magnesium and potassium.

Is Acid Redux effective in many different foods and beverages?
Yes, the acid-neutralizing composition of Acid Redux includes a combination of alkaline substances having both rapid and long-lasting antacid activity. As such, the composition of Acid Redux is particularly well suited for reducing the acidity of caffeinated beverages such as coffee and tea or the acidity of orange or tomato juice. The rapid acting alkaline substances (e.g., potassium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide) of the composition effectively reduce the acidity of these beverages, while the long-lasting alkaline substances (e.g., calcium carbonate) counteract and neutralize acidic gastric secretions stimulated by the ingestion of caffeine. The alkaline substances noted in these formulas are the active ingredients primarily responsible for reducing the acidity of an acidic food and beverages. In addition to their antacid activity, the alkaline substances provide additional effects beneficial to health and nutrition.

Is Acid ReduxTM a proton pump inhibitor and how does it affect the production of gastrin?
Acid Redux is NOT a proton pump inhibitor, it does not influence the (hormonal control) gastrin production.

Is Acid Redux safer than other materials that contain proton pump inhibitors, which have been reported to increase gastrin and possible risks to cancer?
We cannot provide any data on proton pump inhibitors and their links to cancer. There is data available that refers to endocrine secretions, specifically gastrin that suggests there is increased gastrin production influenced by proton pumps. Acid Redux is a safe, extremely fast acting and effective supplement that does not increase gastrin production.

What other benefits does Acid Redux provide in addition to treating GERD or acid reflux?
There is emerging science concerning the alkaline condition of the body and possible benefits. If the lower esophageal sphincter is relaxed incorrectly it allows food and acid to enter the esophagus before this muscle closes. Acid Redux tablets are formulated to, not only reduce stomach acid, but also to pass through the stomach and dissolve in the upper intestine. Once there, they can reduce the acidity of all the body's electrolytes (first the blood, then the urine and other fluids). There are several diseases that are either caused by or exacerbated by too low a body pH, which occurs as we age. These diseases include:

- Gout - uric acid forming crystals in the joints of the lower extremities causes pain
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome - caused by fermenting (acidic) food in the bowel
- Diverticulitis
- Fibromyalgia - muscle soreness is caused by lactic acid build up in the muscles
- Interstitial Cystitis - this disease causes the lining of the bladder to disintegrate. Acidic urine passing through the bladder causes excruciating pain when it contacts the raw bladder walls.
- Osteoporosis - it is theorized by some researchers that bodies constantly seek to balance their pH. In order to balance it, acidic bodies leach alkaline Calcium from their bones, thereby decreasing bone mass. As we age our bodies naturally become less efficient, more acidic.
- Periodontal Disease - it is suspected that the organisms that cause this disease thrive in an acidic environment in the mouth and are eradicated when the pH in the mouth is increased.
- Urination pain from Radiation or Chemotherapy.
- Vulvadynia or Vulvar Pain

What are some activities that cause high body acidity?
The pH of the body is influenced by metabolic sub-products and our diet. Thus, pH is directly affected by the various categories of food that we eat and the internal mechanisms involved in their processing. Some foods that are acidic in their composition can become alkalinizing following metabolization, e.g. lemons. We are becoming more consciously aware of the impact that various food groups and our eating habits have on the internal environment of the body.
Also, as we age, our bodies naturally become more acidic.

What are the effects of food grade gum acacia?
The acid-neutralizing composition of Acid Redux includes gum acacia in an amount up to about 3% by weight of the total composition. The gum acacia is useful in the composition for neutralizing tannic acid, one of the acids present in many foods and beverages.

How can Acid ReDux aid in adjusting the pH of the ''body fluids'' into an acceptable range, between 7.0 and 7.5, which will then influence the blood to maintain its optimal 7.35 pH level?
One of the key factors is the water that we drink. Water accounts for up to 75% of the body and thus the fluid intake greatly impacts the pH of the body. Unfortunately, much of the water we drink is acidic ... including distilled water, reverse osmosis, and deionized water ... which have had their minerals or buffers removed. Alkaline water is not readily or easily available in most communities. Supplementing Acid Redux will aid in influencing the body fluids toward a more alkaline level.

What are the GRAS citations for each of the constituents of Acid Redux?
All ingredients are designated as GRAS, as defined by the U.S. FDA and contains a uniform mixture of the following items sourced from U.S. food grade or pharmaceutical grade ingredients: calcium carbonate, 21 CFR 184.1191; magnesium hydroxide, 21 CFR 184.1428; potassium hydroxide, 21 CFR 184.1631; and gum acacia 21 CFR 184.1330.

What ingredients are contained in other popular Antacids?
Many contain aluminum, sodium bicarbonate and other undesirable actives. For a listing of the actives in many popular Antacids, please visit our website www.enutritionals.net and click on Acid Redux.

How stable is Acid Redux after formulating into a tablet?
Acid Redux is very stable, up to five years, as long as moisture is avoided. All of the ingredients will activate with water or acids. All of the formulas are directly compressible and will function well with the normal excepients used in tableting.

What is neutralization?
Neutralization does not necessarily mean attaining neutral pH (i.e., pH 7), rather, neutralization refers to the equivalence point for a particular acid-base reaction and will depend upon the respective strengths of the particular acid and base, their relative concentrations, and the buffering properties of the solution containing the acid and base.

What is a buffer?
A buffer is a solution containing salts of weak base that is capable of neutralizing both acids and bases and acts to maintain the pH of a solution. In other words, a buffered solution contains both a weak acid (e.g., acetic acid) and its conjugate weak base (e.g., sodium acetate) and its pH changes only slightly upon the addition of acid or base. The weak acid acts as a buffer when base is added to the solution, and the weak base acts as a buffer when acid is added to the solution.

What are the effects of acid-neutralizing compositions to foods?
The addition of an acid-neutralizing composition to an acidic food or beverage results in the neutralization of acids, thereby reducing the acidity of the food or beverage. At the same time, the food or beverage becomes buffered, that is, the pH of the food or beverage may be maintained, within limits, upon the addition of more acid.

What is known of the constituents of Acid Redux?
The alkaline substances of Acid Redux include alkaline earth metal carbonates, alkali and alkaline earth metal hydroxides. More specifically, alkaline earth metal carbonates include calcium and magnesium carbonates, and alkali and alkaline earth metal hydroxides include potassium and magnesium hydroxides. Alkaline substances having long-lasting antacid activity include alkali and alkaline earth metal carbonates. For example, the pharmaceutical use of calcium carbonate as an effective stomach antacid is well known. The rapid antacid effect of stronger alkaline substances such as alkali and alkaline earth metal hydroxides is also known. Commonly used alkali and alkaline earth metal hydroxides include lithium, sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium hydroxides.

What are the effect of the magnesium hydroxide in Acid Redux?
Magnesium hydroxide present in the composition has the effect of counteracting the constipative effect that often accompanies the ingestion of calcium carbonate. Furthermore, from a dietary standpoint, the alkaline substances also provide calcium, potassium, and magnesium, minerals for which the FDA has proposed minimum daily requirements. Magnesium hydroxide supplements the neutralizing effect of the potassium hydroxide, and is the second most active neutralizer. Calcium carbonate acts as a weak neutralizer, but also serves as a diluent to provide a convenient application quantity of the composition, and as a calcium source. The combination of these ingredients of the composition provides a highly effective acid neutralizer.

What is pH?
The scale that is used for measuring the pH, or hydrogen ion concentration, is from 0 to 14, with 7.0 being the neutral point. An ''Acidic Body'' means that the pH of the blood is below 7.0 and an ''Alkaline Body'' is above 7.0 with the ideal pH being 7.35. Outside of this range the body activity is no longer optimal and the metabolism is out of balance.
